The Good, Bad and the UGLY...

Oliver and I did a lot of spearfishing in the Bahamas during the 06/07 season.  In this video we're at one of the more remote Out Islands where I had spent the morning trying out my new underwater camera.  I took pictures of fish, turtles, coral and a few of large sharks -  including 2 Bulls.

Later on that day, we were diving the East side of the island and, at the time of the video, about 500' from my anchored boat Oliver probably shouldn't have shot the fish that far from the boat, but I can't really blame him cause it was a really nice Grey Snapper. If I hadn't been playing with the camera, I too would have gone after him.   So here I'm trying out the video function on the camera and aim at Oliver just in time to catch his movement and the shot.  Unfortunately, he took the shot a little too far away from the fish; and the fish, though mortally wounded, got off of his spear and did the "dinner bell roll" before dying.

Now... I should have been going after the wounded fish to finish him off and get him up out of the water, but I was filming and well...  the 3 sharks were there in less than 30 seconds. Of the almost 3 minutes of video that I shot, most of it shows the bottom as the camera hangs spinning from my wrist. (I cut those parts.)  The video showing the sharks was taken the few times that they were 50' to 75' away regrouping for another rush, and I calmed down enough to think about filming.  We were finally able to work our way to the boat and get out of the water.  Needless to say, we moved to another location before getting back in the water.  So remember, this is my first video.  They'll get better... Enjoy!
