12/14/08 - The places are the same but the pictures have changed...

Overview - We enjoyed Thanksgiving at the Sampson Cay Club and were served a feast like only mom could make... really nice!  We then spent the next 2 weeks cruising through the many of the same Cays we visited with Michael but this time we did it with Deb's daughter.  You'll see many of the places that I've already covered, but hopefully the pictures will be different enough to give you a better perspective of our chosen cruising grounds.  We also did a 2 day visit to Georgetown Great Exuma in order to stock up on some hard to find grocery items.  Just before entering Conch cut, we caught a small Yellowfin Tuna which we Sashimi'd on the spot.  No time for photos where the freshness of the fish is concerned. Yum!

Debbie's daughter, Shelly, came down to spend a few days with us and fortunately the weather was perfect for the first few days.  We think that she had fun even though there were no REAL shopping experiences to be had.  Hey... we took her to the beach to look at floatsum...  it doesn't get any better than that!  This last week as we caught up with DeJarlo and had several great dive days to go fishing and a wonderful evening at Ali's bar eating Conch salad, cracked Conch, Conch fritters, peas & rice etc.  Of course there was dancing, drinking adult beverages, and much to photo.  Unfortunately, I forgot the camera and was ensconced on the working side of the bar before I realized it.  At least Oliver won't be seeking legal council over the video that I would have posted of him doing his best Bahamian dance steps.

This coming week will be more pictures of where we've been for the last few weeks, but with guests Deb and Den who are flying in on their own plane today.  When they leave we'll head to George Town, home of the U.S.C.W.R.D.C. (U.S./Canadian Winter Retirement Daycare Camp)  for Christmas and Junkanoo.

Hopefully you won't get bored by seeing pictures of the same places until we get to George Town.  We'll try to make them different enough to be worthy of your time.  When we do get to George Town, rest assured that I won't be covering any of the Daycare Campers activities so none of the pictures or stories will have to be edited and approved by the Daycare Council.

Enjoy!

When you have such a great view of your horizons you get awed by the by the most basic sunrise or sunset.

Main Street, Staniel Cay

The only graveyard that I've ever seen that has a tennis court for the residents.  Hey, this might catch on with the golfers in the U.S... headstones around the sandtrap... then again..

Checking out some dive sites from above.  The next 2 pictures will show you what I'm talking about.  No "view bucket" needed here!

I had to insert one of the dozen or so pics that shel took of herself.

A favorite anchorage!  Can't tell you where or we'd have to kill you...

We like rain showers!  Saves us from having to wash the salt off of the boat ourselves.

Some of the Black Point children enjoying the afternoon skipping stones off the water.

The Noonie fruit, growing in Billie's Garden of Eden, is said to have great medicinal properties... but only if one can get beyond the horrific smell!

The walk up the hill at Rudder Cay is worth the effort.

Another view from Little Farmer's Cay.

Nikki is in the process of making delicious conch salad, however, Shelly thought the taste was a bit "fresh".  As you can see, she was more interested in the chicken.

During the trip to George Town, we stopped by Chat N Chills on Sunday.  It's fun to see other cruisers, and to enjoy their Sunday pig roast, which we did.  BBQ ribs, mac and cheese, slaw....ymmm...finger lickin' good.

As you can tell, we are enjoying these! Hope you are too.

Thanksgiving at the Samson Cay Club was truly a surprise.  A traditional spread that I thought only mom could make was laid out for all the guests.

Gee... looks like another frontal passage...  We have had many very nice days between fronts.  But still... gotta bitch about something, right?

Some colorful rental units on the other side of Main Street.

Shels first taste of my seviche... not only did she actually eat it but she claims to have liked it!

The water is 12' deep and the coral is rising about 4' to 5' off of the bottom.

Anchored behind Rudder Cay in about 7' of water.  You can see every blade of grass on the bottom.

Anchored off of Bitter Guana Cay to see the lizards.

I know, you've seen the Garden of Eden before.  This is a slightly different perspective so get over it!

Cone flowers growing in a small crevice in the rock.

Looking up at the entrance of Oven Rock Cave, as the girls descend inside.

Admiring the view from the docks at Little Farmer's Cay

Great place to stop and walk along the beach enjoying the view

Shelly enjoying an evening of fun playing dominoes with the locals.  One of the first things she learned about this game was that you have to SLAM your piece on the board.  "Helps with frustrations" according to the teachers.

What a gorgeous sky!  The sunsets here are unbelievable.

You guessed it...another lovely sunset.

Umm...yea, its the same sunset, but really, isn't it amazing?

Enjoy!

One of the many reasons we love the Bahamas.

A different perspective of the Staniel Cay yacht Clubs Rental cottages.

Ahhh... broad reaching in light air using the Screecher.  Ghosting along at 4kts with the autopilot steering, the stereo on... nice...

Same head at a different angle.  See the fish?

Not only every blade of grass but a medium sized barracuda, also in 7' of water.

Shelly looking back to make sure she wasn't going to get nibbled on.

Another beautiful view...this one from the top of Great Guana Cay.

The sun setting in Little Farmer's Cay.  Although, details are hard to see in this pic, the play on light made for a neat shot

Ali enjoying a dance with Shelly.  "You can have your turn later!"

White Point Beach, between Black Point and Little Farmer's Cay.  Very nice!

The boulders at White Beach.

The result of a dive with Oliver.  He shot first and missed... while he was reloading I took a long 15' shot and stole his fish... Sorry Oliver but Deb says "Yum, ceviche, please!"

Yep, another evening with another beautiful sunset.  Just can't resist grabbing the camera!

Same sunset, just a different view, and a few seconds later.
