02/02/09 A guest, an island and a wedding...

Huh?

Overview - Emmie, a friend of Debbie's flew in for a weeks visit.  She brought with her some documents from the states, as well as chocolate covered almonds and other treats.  The weather was not at it's best but we still enjoyed ourselves thoroughly...  We did a Friday night at Ali's bar, eating Brenda's wonderful cracked conch, conch fritters, conch salad and of course a huge helping of baked mac and cheese.  We revisited some of our favorite spots in the central Exumas as well as some new ones.  The week flew by and the next thing we knew Emmie was leaving on Flamingo Air...

We had a week before we had to be at Little Farmers for the wedding so we sailed back down to George Town to stock up on food and see friends.

On our sail back up to Little Farmers we caught a small Skipjack Tuna that we marinated and grilled that evening for dinner.  We also made a nice Cajun dirty rice and lobster.  The rest of the weekend was a kaleidoscope of friends, the Reverend Adam Brown, celebrations and such...

See you all next week at the 5F Festival.  The 23rd annual First Friday in February at Farmers Cay Festival.  Great FUN!

Enjoy!

The dock at Club Thunderball.  This evening while we ate Pizza there was a model photo shoot going on right here on the dock.

We had to rent a car to get Emmie back to the airport as it was too rough a trip for the Beemer.

Emmie trying out her first bite of Cracked Conch at Ali's bar.  "This IS cooked right?"

Can you say Too busy eating to even smile for the camera.  Sheeeesh!  I put down my Conch salad to take the picture...

Emmie even got Billy to climb down into one of his sink hole gardens to pose with his banana and papaya plants.

Due to the lack of a proper flag to plant into the soil while claiming Emmie's Island for the Queen, we toast the event.

Exploring the island looking for pirates treasure... or at least snacks to go with our drinks...

Some Staghorn coral that we saw just inside of the park.

"Come ON in!  The water's fine.  No sharks... REALLY!

I had to chase away this SMALL barracuda. He was smiling at Deb making her a bit self-conscious.

Shallows shallows everywhere.

We found the Guardian of Black Cay on the sound side of the island... "Oh no Mr. Bill "

The little thing here, on the gaff, is a Skipjack Tuna that Deb caught on our way back up to Farmers Cay.

I'm waiting... we're ALL waiting.  Where's the bride.  The wedding was supposed to start an hour and a half ago.  I heard one of the ushers say "we're givin' her 10 more minutes, then we gone." The video tells it all.  From Reverend Adam Brown's humorous insights to the "I pronounce you..."

A nice, if not perilous, anchorage in windy conditions.  But hey, we're close to Club Thunderball and John's home made pizza!

The climb up to Club Thunderball is worth the effort.  At the summit you get a cheap happy hour, good food and a great view.

View 3.  Something for everyone.

Emmie - "You want me to light the torch and lead the way down into the cave, go diving in the dark clear waters and drink from the fresh water spring..."  "You ARE funny!"

Here Emmie, try out this fresh Conch Salad... errrrr... yeh... sure, it's been cooked... sort of...

I'll bet I have at least one picture of Ali hustling... errrr... making my guests feel welcome on every log I've posted so far!

This Sandy Cay was claimed by Emmie as "Emmie's Island"

Our anchorage in the cove of Emmie's Island.

The next morning we were greeted to this while sailing up into the Exuma Land Sea Park.

And the VERY delicious... errr... I mean VERY pretty... Yellowtail Snapper.  Feast... errr... your eyes on these guys!

Emmie and Deb swimming into the "Washing Machine Cave."

Hah... we're anchored up near the beach in shallow water and nobody else has the draft to anchor anywhere near us... Oh oh...

After some lunch, reading on the foredeck and some hull cleaning, the tide finally rose enough to sail us off.

Back to our favorite downtown George Town anchorage off of Hamburger Beach.

Very surreal looking... even first thing in the morning while I'm waiting for the coffee to heat up.  That Sunbrella IS waterproof!

Ali and Brenda turned out in their island finest for the wedding.  Brenda spent the night before cooking for the reception.  She looked great considering she was up most of the night!

Enjoy!

At the other end of Staniel Cay is the Pink Pearl Supermarket.  Closed today for Obama's inauguration.

This Ospreys nest was temporarily deserted so I did a quick hike up onto Oven Rock for this photo op.

Deb's Cracked Conch, slaw and double helping of the worlds best Mac & Cheese...

Emmie's excited to be getting a personal tour by Billy, the artist of Black Points Garden of Eden.

Another view from Emmie's Island.

Another view of our anchorage in the cove of Emmie's Island.

We actually like these little frontal rain events and use the radar to chase them down so that we can get the boat thoroughly washed clean of salt water.

Emmie wanted proof that she was braving diving in shark infested waters.  Here it is.  The shark's just behind her.

Emmie doing her best to stand up during the heavy duty wash cycle.

On the way to George Town I took short cut up between the Pimlicos and  Brigantines at low tide... I found out that 14" is 4" shy of what I need to sail through.

Our anchorage on Black Cay had a beach with coconut palms on it.  Of course I had to knock down a coconut and husk it.  Yummm...

On of the cruisers anchored near us took his Corsair trimaran out for a bit of sailing.  He was moving at every bit of 15kts!  Looks fun!

The ring bearer rehearsing for the wedding.

As did Little Sis.  Gotta love that hat.
